Glee Dayton

Services for Glee Dayton, 95, of Perry, IA will be Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Perry.  Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Monday December 3, 2012 with family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry.  Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery.

 

Glee Callen Dayton was born on November 20, 1917 near Moravia, IA the fourth daughter of James Riley and Fannie Glick Callen.  She grew up on the family farm and attended school at Maple Grove and Coulson Country Schools.  She attended Moravia High School and graduated in 1935 with a Normal-Training Degree.  After teaching a few years she attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and at the completion of her work she worked as an accountant for a manufacturing firm for 5 years.

 

On February 26, 1947 she was united in marriage to Seth W. Dayton at University Avenue Christian Church in Des Moines and for the next 57 years made her home on their farm near Perry, Iowa.  They had two sons William Randall and Robert Seth.  In October of 2003 she moved to Spring Valley Assisted Living Facility where she lived until the time of her death.  She was a member of the First Christian Church and was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and taught Sunday School.  She was active in educational activities while the boys were in school and later did volunteer work at the Rowley Masonic Home quilting for many years.  She enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, a step daughter Edna Sorber, her parents, a brother Dale Callen and sisters Ardis Walter, Edrie Phillips and Reba Packard.

 

She is survived by her sons Bill and wife Dianne Dayton of Shoreview, MN and Bob and wife Nancy Dayton of Polk City, IA; 4 grandchildren Jessica Young, Nicolas Dayton, Dennis Dayton, and Kristopher Dayton; and 3 great grandchildren.

 

Memorial contribution may be made to the First Christian Church of Perry.
