Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017 with family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St. Croix Hospice.

Donald Vincent Winters was born August 6, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Miles Fonzy and Lula (Reece) Winters. He graduated from New Providence High School in 1954. Don was honorably discharged from the Army after serving his country from 1955 – 1957 during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Caroline Sitterly on October 11, 1958 in Perry, Iowa. Don was a foreman for Northern Natural Gas Company until his retirement in 1988. Don passed away peacefully Monday, April 10, 2017 at Kennybrook Village in Grimes, IA at the age of 81.

Don will be remembered for his enjoyment of being with family and friends telling stories and exchanging jokes. He loved attending his kids sporting events, working on the ball fields in Perry and taking money at the gates for tournaments. He enjoyed woodworking and gave many of his creations to family and friends. Don had fond memories of traveling to Hawaii and the Alaskan Cruise he and Caroline took, along with enjoying the twelve years they spent living in Arizona.

Survivors include his sons Mark Winters of St. Paul,MN and Troy (Tommi) Winters of Granger, IA, daughter Kim (Bill) Evanich of Goodyear, AZ, two brothers Stan (Inez) Winters of Iowa Fall, IA, Lawrence (Lena Mae) Winters of Hampton, IA and one sister Kay Wood of Grand Jct., CO, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren and companion Angie Roan. Preceding Don in death were his parents, wife on March 19, 2013 and eleven brothers and sisters.
