Alberta Ruth Daniels was born on November 21, 1930 in Perry, Iowa, the daughter of Bert J. and Hazel Alice (Fagen) Daniels. Alberta passed away at Perry Lutheran Home Eden Acres on May 17, 2021. Alberta attended school at Washington Township and graduated from Panora-Linden High School with the class of 1948. Alberta was united in marriage to Jack Smith on May 22, 1950 in Council Bluffs, IA. Alberta retired from her secretarial job with Perry Elementary Schools and later worked at Calico Shops and Thymes Remembered Tea Room. She loved helping people pick out clothing, jewelry, and home décor. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Hotel Pattee and Carnegie Library. Jack and Alberta enjoyed many seasons in Iowa City cheering on their Hawkeyes. Alberta was always a strong advocate for everything Perry. She never knew a stranger and will be missed by many. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, one sister, Wilma Waters, two brothers, Earl Daniels and Paul Daniels. Survivors are her daughter, Sandy (Duane) Smith of Lenexa, Kansas; son, Thomas (Sandra) of Homosassa, FL; two grandchildren, Abby (Jeff) Henderson and Zach (Jennifer) Smith; five great-grandchildren, Emma Henderson, Gus Henderson, Hank Henderson, Jake Smith, and Clair Smith; and several nieces and nephews. The family requests memorials be made to the Perry Public Library and may be sent directly to the library in Alberta’s name or to Murdock Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Violet Hill Cemetery.
