Obituary For G. Robert "Bob" Sackett

G. Robert (Bob) Sackett passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Perry Lutheran Home, Perry, Iowa. Bob was born May 14, 1932 in Perry, Iowa, to George H. Sackett and Lillian V. (Berglund) Sackett. He graduated from Perry High School in 1950 and then attended Grinnell College, graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics.

Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Counter Intelligence Corps working in a field office in Okinawa from 1954 to 1956. Upon return, he worked full time for Allied Mutual Insurance in Des Moines while attending Drake University Law School. He graduated from Drake in 1960 with a Juris Doctor degree.

On July 9, 1960, he married Ann Marie Bartley in Waterloo, Iowa. After law school, he returned to Perry. In 1961, he joined his father, George H. Sackett, Blake Willis, and Blake's son Ned Willis in forming the law firm of Willis & Sackett. In 2000, DeWayne Dalen joined him with the firm now being known as Willis, Sackett, & Dalen. In 2008, they merged with the firm of Shirley, Powell, and Finneseth, P.L.C. to form Finneseth, Dalen, & Powell, P.L.C., with Bob becoming an associate. He practiced law until he was 84 years old.

Bob had a lifelong interest in flying earning his private pilot license as a teenager. He was a member of the Grinnell College Flying Club and flew for the Central Iowa Skydivers for over 25 years. He also served on the Perry Airport Commission for many years.

Bob is survived by his wife, Ann; daughter Joanne Sackett of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter Katie (Jeff) Dheere, and granddaughter Jayden Dheere, all of Alexandria, Tennessee; and brother Thomas Sackett of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister-in-law, Lynn Sackett.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa, with visitation from 4-6pm preceding the service. Interment will be at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Perry Lutheran Home or the McCreary Community Building of Perry.
