Obituary For Hubert "Herb" Thompson

Hubert “Herb” Thompson, 83, of Perry, Iowa

Services will be held for Hubert “Herb” Thompson on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Pastor Charles Compton will officiate and military funeral honors will also be conducted. Hubert’s ashes will be interred in the columbarium wall at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA 50003. Herb passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Perry Lutheran Home.

Hubert Earl Thompson was born May 9, 1934 the son of Joseph Earl and Gertrude (Anderson) Thompson in rural Story County, Iowa. Herb graduated from Hubbard High School in 1952. After attending college, he was inducted into the United States Army on October 7, 1954 and received his Honorable Discharge on October 3, 1956. He married Shirley Ann Shaw November 27, 1960 in Pitzer, IA. They lived for a time in New Richmond, WI before moving to Perry, IA in 1974. Herb was in sales working from an office or on the road during his whole working life. He sold agricultural chemicals to coops in the mid west region before his retirement.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Thompson of Perry, IA; one daughter Teresa Thompson of Prairie City, IA; one son Bradley Thompson of Southaven, MS; three sisters Marge Bourne of Ames, IA, Norma (Marv) Holland of Ames, IA, Grace (Roger) Engen of Ames, IA; one brother Arnold (Marj) Thompson of Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Everett Thompson and a brother-in-law Bob Bourne.

    Our condolences. Herb was a true family friend. The Bek family always enjoyed spending time with Herb, Shirley, Teresa and Brad. Our Bek family also enjoyed the times we spent working on projects together. Our prayers and thoughts will long endure this sad moment. Love from Craig, Dawn, Nate and Skylar

    Shirley, Teresa and Brad - John and I are so very sorry for your loss. Actually, a loss for all of us. Herb was loved by all that knew him. This picture looks just like I want to remember him.
