Obituary For John Dean Blougher

John Dean Blougher, the son of John Anderson and Grace Alma (Fulkerson) Blougher was born April 1, 1925 in Perry, Iowa. Dean passed away September 16, 2017 at the Perry Lutheran Home at the age of 92.

Dean grew up on a farm and attended grade school at a country school three miles north of Perry. He graduated from Perry High School in 1941. He helped his family on the farm until he was drafted on March 1, 1945 into the United States Navy during World War II. After basic training he attended electrician’s school at Great Lakes, IL. He then transferred to Hawaii where he attended school for learning maintenance of telephones and switchboards. He then moved to Wake Island and later to Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. The war ended and Dean returned to the farm and farmed in partnership with his father. He loved to play fast pitch softball and basketball in his spare time.

Dean was united in Marriage to Gladys Audrey Grief at the Christian Church in Woodward, Iowa on March 6, 1954. To this union were born two daughters, Audrey Marie and Alma Louise. Dean along with his family, raised livestock and grain. He was named Master Swine Producer in 1965. Dean enjoyed watching his daughters play basketball and in later years enjoyed watching the grandchildren’s sporting events.

Dean and Gladys made their home on the farm north of Bouton, IA for thirty-nine years before moving to Perry, Iowa in 1993. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Perry, Farm Bureau and a lifetime member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Dean is survived by his wife Gladys of Perry, IA: daughters; Audrey Mohr of Ft. Collins, CO and Alma (Gary) Swanson of Ogden, IA . Four grandchildren; Amy (Michael) Bahl; Courtney (Daniel) Taylor; Kyle Swanson and Kelsey (Brian) Shelton; and four great-grandchildren. Preceding Dean in death were his parents and two sisters Arlene Ward and Ruth Hansen.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Perry. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. until service time on Thursday, also at the church.

A memorial has been established in Dean’s name and may be left at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry.
