Obituary For Lowell Gene Peters

Lowell Gene Peters, 81, passed away July 3rd, 2018, at his home in rural Panora. Visitation will be held at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry, IA on Sunday, July 8, 2018 with family in attendance from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Murdock Funeral Home on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 10:30 am; with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery on Beaumont Avenue, rural Dawson.

Lowell, was born to Lloyd F. and Marie E. Peters on April 26th, 1937. He was born at his parents home southwest of Perry. He attended school and graduated from Washington Township in 1954.

He started farming with his father when he was 16. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1954 and completed 8 years of service and was honorably discharged in 1962. October 6th, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Ann Reece at the First United Methodist Church in Perry, IA. To this union, 3 children were born. They lived in rural Perry for 10 years, then moved to rural Yale where they continued to farm.

Lowell belonged to the Masonic Lodge and he was a lifetime member of the Elks.

The continuation and preservation of the historic Prairie Center Church was dear to his heart and he actively participated to achieve that. He also attended Yale United Methodist Church when Prairie Center was not in session.

The two greatest loves of Lowell’s life was family and farming. Every year since 1964, the family tradition was to vacation in Branson, MO, where they met several lifelong friends from St. Louis. He loved to spend his time fishing for rainbow trout, in his boat or off the dock with his friends. He enjoyed a simple life spending time with his grandchildren teaching them a love for the land.

His father always told him that a person should leave the land that they live on or farm in better condition than when you received it. Lowell always tried to abide by that philosophy.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; a son, Dennis (Brenda) Peters, of Fremont, NE; a daughter, Denise (Tim) Schuhardt of Perry, IA, a son, Greg (Jolene) Peters, of Carroll, IA; grandchildren, Brandon Peters, Keisha Peters, Josh Schuhardt, Jace Schuhardt, Ryan Peters, Emily Sturgeon, Alecia Peters, Aaron Peters, and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Lois A. Modlin.

A memorial has been established in Lowell’s name and may be brought or sent to Murdock Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at murdockfuneralhome.net

Sorry for your loss. I knew Lowell from working together at Adesa Car Auction for a number of years. I drive cars and he worked on the lot so we didn't really work together. But he was always friendly and spoke every time he saw me or he'd waved if he saw me from a distance. I appreciated him and his attitude.
