Obituary For Lucille M. Christensen

Marie Lucille Hansen Christensen, 97, of Perry, IA

Funeral services for M. Lucille Hansen Christensen, 97, of the Rowley Masonic Community in Perry, will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be in Peoples Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Murdock Funeral Home.

Marie Lucille Benson was born September 19, 1921, in Washington Township, Dallas County, Iowa, the daughter of George Elder and Olive Kathleen (Graney) Benson. She grew up in the Dawson area, graduated from Dawson High School in 1938, and attended business school in Des Moines. Lucille met Mervin “Sonny” Hansen Sr. at Lake Robbins where they enjoyed dancing. They were married on June 3, 1944, in Perry. For many years, they played Pitch with their couple’s card group. She was a devoted farm wife and mother who lived and raised her family on their Century Farm in rural Woodward. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Helping Hand Club and St Ann’s Altar and Rosary Society.

After Sonny passed away, she married Gordon Christensen on January 2, 1981, in Granger. They lived in Ogden and wintered in Venice, Florida. They travelled extensively during their 30 years of marriage. Lucille enjoyed doing ceramics and was an avid collector of Betty Boop items. The past eight years Lucille has lived at the Rowley Masonic Community where she passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters Karen (Art) Walters of Des Moines, Iowa, Cheryl (Steve-deceased) Rosenauer of Agency, Missouri, son Mervin Jr. (Pam) Hansen of Woodward, Iowa; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; step-son Daryl (Cindy) Christensen of Ogden, Iowa; step-daughter Kathy (Jim) Wittersheim of Venice, Florida; foster daughter Gloria Meyers of Lutz, Florida, and many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Preceding Lucille in death were her parents, husband Mervin Sr. on December 21, 1979, husband Gordon on May 5, 2011, brother George and son-in-law Steve Rosenauer.
