Obituary For Mildred "Millie" Frances Cooley

Funeral services for Mildred “Millie” Cooley, 94 of Perry, IA, have been set for 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 11, 2021 at Murdock Funeral Home. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Murdock Funeral Home. Mildred passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Perry Lutheran Homes Eden Acres. Mildred Frances Oglesby was born April 10, 1927 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Ernest Clifton and Minnie Clayton (Steele) Oglesby. She graduated with a business degree with the class of 1946 from Westmar College in Lemars, Iowa. Mildred married Dale Bohner in 1947 and later married George H. Cooley in Cleveland, OH in 1968. Millie worked in the foreign currency department for PNC Banks while living in Akron, Ohio. She loved being a “working woman.” She worked until 1996 when she and her husband George moved to Perry, Iowa. During her life in Perry, she was active in P.E.O. and joined various Bridge clubs, meeting many women. Many lasting friends were made. Her most favorite activity was shopping! There are few people who did not love Millie. She was a genuine listener who understood people. She gave wise counsel when asked, and she practiced silence before voicing judgmental opinions. As a “senior citizen,” she was remarkably fashionable. She knew how to dress. Her grandchildren envisioned her as “hip.” She loved to laugh and enjoyed life! Millie’s warm, caring personality attracted people to her and her friendships were a large part of her life. She loved her family deeply and spent precious moments with her brother and family, children, grandchildren and family events. Her faith in Jesus Christ was paramount. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barbara (William) Clark of Perry, IA, Sandra Worthen of Wadsworth, OH; one brother, Rev. Donald (Judy) Oglesby of Lynn Hurst, OH; daughter-in-law, Sarah Cooley of Chapel Hill, NC; eight grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband George Cooley on September 26, 2009 and one son David Cooley on November 7, 2011. Memorials will be given in Mildred’s name to the Perry Lutheran Homes or Suncrest Hospice.

I feel so blessed to have had her as my aunt. She was a constant presence of love and warmth throughout my life. Growing up, I cherish the memories of being always together with our mutual families to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and the various milestones of life. I praise God that I was able to be with her twice this summer as she reached this final one. She may now rest in the light and glory of God's eternal kingdom.
