Obituary For Norma Elaine Leefleur - Kilmer

Funeral Services have been set for 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 11,2024 at Woodward United Methodist Church for Norma Leefleur-Kilmer, 94 of Woodward, IA. Burial will follow at Peoples Cemetery in rural Bouton, IA. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10,2024 at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry, IA. Norma passed away Thursday, March 7,2024 at the Madrid Home in Madrid, IA.

Norma Elaine was born August 18,1929 in Boone County Iowa. She was the daughter of Walter John and Katherine Margaret (Lass) Schutt. She grew up near Ogden, IA and graduated from Ogden High School with the class of 1947.

Norma married Bernard Jack Leefleur on November 12,1952 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. They had three daughters, Kathy, Thelma, and Melinda.

Norma worked for a magazine in Atlantic and later for the Woodward State Hospital School. In December 1958 they purchased the family farm where she was a farm wife. She enjoyed gardening, canning, knitting, crosswords, and crocheting last names for wedding gifts and The Lords Prayer for family and friends. She loved baking her famous moon dessert, raising chickens, cows, and her three girls.

Norma was a member of the Woodward United Methodist Church, Cass Community Club, Legion Auxiliary, Woodward Get Together Club and The Golden Girls State Hospital Retirees.

Later in life after the passing of Jack she married Glenn Kilmer in 2000.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack in August of 1945, husband Glenn in October of 2013, one sister, Kathleen and three sons-in-law, Merv, Jack, and Bill.

Norma is survived by three daughters, Kathy, Thelma, and Melinda who all reside at the family farm near Woodward; six grandchildren, Jack, Jenni (Dug), Sara (Chris), Jesse (Shera), Jeremy (Alex), Rachel (Brian); several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one brother, Howard (Deb) Schutt of Woodward, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the family in Norma’s name for a later designation. Online condolences may be left at murdockfuneralhome.net.

    met norma in the clothing rm in 1985.she was sewing as we talked.in 87 i started working with jack on nights. i did ot with him before this and on night one he said,you dont know how glad i am to see this and i said,i do know. things were really rocking at this time and i told him i would do all i could to help get him to retirement and with a few battle scars we seen this through.i felt like i became a son they never had.my wife and i went fishing with them,visited at there home and met there wonderful family and friends.never told them they felt like family but believe they knew.at work i think you could say there was only 1 jack same with only 1 don.he started work in 1957. when he told me the staff to resident ratio even up to the 70s i thought omg how did you manage that.they had staff you could rely on.in my 28yrs cant think of anyone i appreciated more then jack.i nicknamed him action jackson and he said,maybe i use to be something like that.this was like an old fashion family that you dont see anymore and cant say enough about what they all meant to me.rest in peace norma my friend.

    Sympathy to Norma's family. I have visited in her home several years ago, with my daughter, Mary Ellen Kilmer, and was glad to make her acquaintance. She was nice to know. Betty Kenyon, Mitchell, NE
